My favourite Author

Posted by silasho2000 on June 15, 2008

My favourite author is Jk Rowling. Here are five interesting facts about her:

1. She progressed from living on welfare to multi-millionaire status within five years.

2. She is the 12th richest woman in Britain.

3. After her marriage, she sometimes uses the name Joanne Murray when conducting private matters.

4. Her elderly headmaster at St. Michael’s Primary School, Alfred Dunn, was claimed as the inspiration for the Harry Potter character Albus Dumbledore.

5. She hatched the idea of Harry Potter when she was on a delayed train.

(Adapted from Wikipedia)

Why she is my favourite author:

I am amazed by her vast imagination and strong character. She is able to produce so much imagination. To be specific, 7 books, with each book being several hundered pages thick. Also, when she was writing the first Harry Potter book, she was living on welfare. Her fantastic writing skills have made me addicted to reading her Harry Potter series. Her “rags to riches” story also inspires me it just shows that she is a extremely talented author. Her Harry Potter series is one of the few series that so many people follow so closely. The plot, description and characters are very well plotted and seem quite belivable.

June Holidays Week 4

Posted by silasho2000 on June 14, 2008

Finally, the last week of the June holidays. I’ve been “waiting” for this week to come. It is going to be a busy and difficult week. I have to say goodbye to my enjoyable holiday lifestyle and neaten up all my books and work. But anyway, it is going to be a fresh new term with fresh new hopes. Besides, school life will not be as boring as holiday life. School, here I come!

June Holidays Week 3

Posted by silasho2000 on June 14, 2008

Well, well, well. Its already the third week of the June holidays. The past two weeks have gone by in a flash. The completion of my homework is right on track. I am struck with the realisation that next week, week 4, will be the last week of the June holidays. And then, its back to school already. I am already dreading the exhausting five-day weeks ahead. It may sound negative, but I’m sure other students will agree with me. However, holidays which are too long are not good for anyone. So maybe, the end of a holiday is a good thing.

June Holidays Week 2

Posted by silasho2000 on June 14, 2008

Its the second week of the June holidays already. Time really passes by quickly when we are having fun, aren’t we? I have began to suffer the side effects of staying at home for most of the day. One disadvantage of having such a long holiday(but it passes by very quickly) is that my brain starts to “rot”. Maybe its because i have been getting enough mental exercise. Also, I have been informed that I have to go back to school for my cca. What a bore! Well, at least I have started “touching” my homework, thus fulfilling my resolution. However, there is still a long way to go before I finish my mountain load of work. Sigh!

June Holidays Week 1

Posted by silasho2000 on June 14, 2008

Finally, after the long and tiring mid-year exams, the June holidays are here, giving all of us a much needed break. However, holidays are actually never holidays. We still have to go back to school and, most importantly, we have tons of homework to complete. The longer the holiday, the more work teachers give us. Speaking from past experiences, this June holiday is going to be over in a flash. Therefore, I have made a resolution- to start on my homework as soon as possible. However, I am pretty doubtful that I will have the mental strength and determination to carry out my resolution.

Term 2 Week 20- Journal Writing

Posted by silasho2000 on June 13, 2008

Whenever I am under pressure, I will malign my environment as the cause of all my worries, and wish for an idyllic and rustic life. Stress is extinct in such a idealistic kind of life. However, I am unsure if i will really be that jubilant if I could lead such a life.

Term 2 Week 19- Journal Writing

Posted by silasho2000 on June 13, 2008

The Euro 2008 season is here again. I do feel distrubed when i hear reports of fracas breaking out on the streets after some of the matches. However, I do admire such supporters who support their country’s team with so much gusto. After their team has lost, some trouble-making supporters take their pique out on the streets, and probably on the police too. After awhile, the seriousness of the fights on the streets start to wane. Thankfully, the situation in Singapore is much less chaotic. The feeling of apathy which the Singaporeans display towards the national team is evident.

Term 2 Week 18- Journal Writing

Let’s face it. A person can only improve his or her life if he is disgruntled with it. People are sometimes vulnerable to being insatiable, wanting changes for the better in their lives, but whether or not they actually do it, is another issue. Being too comfortable with your current situation is going to impede your chances of improving your life. The important thing is to have the desire to exploit any opportunities for change that comes your way.

Term 2 Week 17- Journal Writing

Posted by silasho2000 on June 13, 2008

When will the arts scene in Singapore ever reach its pinnacle? The rise of the arts scene will only culminate with the changing of adamant mindsets of Singaporeans that pursuing arts in Singapore is not going to earn anyone a decent living. When one announces his or her dream to pursue arts, the person will most likey be impeded by an array of opposition, probably from his family. Few things in life can be worse than being bereft of the opportunity to pursue one’s own dream. So please, give such people a break.

Term 2 Week 16- Journal Writing

Posted by silasho2000 on June 13, 2008

From now on, i’m going to be more wary of the mass media, having realised that some articles are not totally accurate. Superficially, the articles or stories seem accurate and proper, while the general public, being lethargic, just simply accept what they read or hear as the truth. The mass media has a paramount position of being able to influence the public. However, as one dives deeper into the stories, he or she can detect subtle hints of attempts to sway the readers’ views. All these are done by using carefully selected words, affecting the readers subconsciously. Hence, it is inevitable that people will start to question some of the articles. Therefore, it is imperative that one knows how to jettison the unneeded information.
